The African Connection:

Zan's Jamaican descent introduced her to the pan-Africanist perspective. Inspired by figures like Marcus Garvey and the crowning of Haile Selassie in Ethiopia, she felt a deep connection to Africa. Her first visit to Ethiopia was a spiritual experience, where she discovered a Jamaican community in Shashamane. This trip reshaped her view of Africa and emphasized the continent's potential.

Perceptions vs. Reality:

Before visiting Africa, Zan had certain preconceptions shaped by media portrayals. However, her firsthand experience in Ghana shattered these notions. From the warmth of the people to the vibrant culture, she felt an overwhelming sense of belonging. The visit to the Cape Coast Castle, a historical site linked to the transatlantic slave trade, was particularly emotional for her. It was a poignant reminder of the resilience of her ancestors.

Exploring Overlooked Destinations:

Zan emphasized the richness of African culture present in countries like Cuba and Colombia. She encourages travelers to explore these often-overlooked destinations to experience the African influence in their culture, food, and music.

Business Ventures and Promoting Africa:

Through her company, ZanZan Lifestyle, Zan organizes group trips to various destinations, including Ghana and Brazil. She believes that every black person should visit Africa at least once in their lifetime to connect with their roots.

In summary,

Zan's journey is a testament to the power of travel in bridging cultural gaps and fostering understanding. Her message is clear: we share more similarities than differences. By being open-minded and embracing our shared heritage, we can foster greater unity among the African diaspora.
